Set a Goal Toward Realizing Carbon Neutrality by 2050

In May 2022, the Company set a target to reduce CO2 emissions from fuel usage and electricity by 38% compared to fiscal 2013 by 2030 (on a non-consolidated basis) with a goal of realizing carbon neutrality, virtually zero CO2 emissions, as the Bando Group by 2050.

SDG to which the Bando Group contributes

We will accelerate our efforts toward the achievement of the target, including systematic installation of energy-saving facilities, etc. as well as efficient manufacturing through energy transition and process improvement.

Future Initiatives

  • Shift to new manufacturing process
  • Aggressive introduction of solar power generation
  • Upgrade transformers and boilers to those meeting the energy efficiency standard under the Top Runner Program

Initiatives in the past

Shift to different fuels/Introduction of high-efficiency equipment
  • Wakayama Plant:
Introduced a hot water absorption chiller that uses waste steam from the vulcanizing machine. Changed fuel for boilers and air conditioners from heavy oil to natural gas (2014 results)
  • Ashikaga Plant:
Shifted from heavy oil to a cogeneration system using natural gas, which covers more than half of the power consumption at the plant (fiscal 2019 results)

Switched to LED at business bases
  • Ashikaga Plant:
Reduced CO2 emissions by 1,606.9 t-CO2 per year through introduction of LED lighting in some production buildings and a shift to high-efficiency facilities (fiscal 2018 results)
  • Head Office:
Introduced LED lighting in the laboratory building, which reduced power consumption by approximately 62% and also improved the workplace environment thanks to a shorter time to light up (fiscal 2019 results)

Introduced solar power generation systems at all plants in Japan
  • Started introducing solar power generation systems at domestic plants in fiscal 2010 and completed the introduction at all plants. “BANDO eco moving Ashikaga solar power facility,” a mega solar power plant, was built at Ashikaga Plant.
  • Planed to install additional solar power generation systems and expand its capacity

ESCO service and Joint Crediting Mechanism
  • Nankai Plant:
Applied “ESCO service,” which covers all expenses incurred in connection with energy saving-related refurbishment with the savings from reduced utilities expenses, to a shift to high-efficiency boilers (fiscal 2020 results)
  • Bando Manufacturing (Thailand):
Applied the “Joint Crediting Mechanism,” in which advanced countries provide technology and invest in developing countries to reduce CO2 emissions and count the resulting reductions toward the targets of the advanced countries, to the introduction of high-efficiency boilers (fiscal 2017 results)
