Development of Environmentally-Friendly Products

Bando’s “eco moving” environment label Contributing to the creation of an abundant global environment through business activities

Bando introduced the “eco moving” label in FY2010 to further promote activities to reduce environmental impact. The “eco moving” label provides easy recognition that the products meet in-house standards to be designated as environmentally friendly. We are working to increase our product portfolio in this regard.

Criteria for use of the eco moving label

Products that meet one or more of the baseline standards in the Company’s proprietary Environmental Claims form the core of the Company’s 11 “eco moving” brand products. Amongst these, products that meet at least 50% of the baseline values in the Environmental Claims are grouped together as “Environmentally- Friendly Products,” which the Company is working to expand.

Environmental Claims

1.Saving energy

The product’s energy loss during use is cut by 15% or more, in comparison with the corresponding reference product.

2.Saving resources

The raw materials used for the product are reduced by 10% or more by mass, in comparison with the corresponding reference product.

3. Reduction in quantity of waste

Product-related waste during use is reduced by 10% or more by mass, in comparison with the corresponding reference product.

4. Using recycled materials

The product uses 20% or more recycled materials by weight.

5. Using eco materials

The product uses 80% or more eco materials by weight (recycled materials as well as non-petrochemical natural resources and materials).

6. Reduction of CO2 emissions

The product reduces CO2 emissions by 10% or more during its lifecycle, in comparison with the corresponding reference product. Or, the product reduces CO2 emissions by 15% or more during any stage of its lifecycle (material procurement, production, transportation, use, disposal).

7. Carbon offset

The product is certified by the carbon offset certification system (third party institution), and the appropriate carbon offset activities have been implemented.

“TENSION MASTER™” – the world’s most precise measurement of tension

Tension is measured using an acceleration sensor to detect the vibrational frequency of power transmission belts, using this small and lightweight device. Proper tension, which extends belt life. can be found by downloading a calculation application on a smartphone.

“Bando Glanmesse™ (Noncombustible Specification)”, with certified fire resistance

This certified fire-resistant film for interiors and exteriors is about 20% thinner than conventional film, and contributes to resource conservation and wasted reduction. Reduced CO2 emissions throughout the product processing life cycle, from raw materials procurement through incineration and disposal, for reduced environmental load.

“HFD System™”Energy-Saving Power Transmission System Product Flat Belt Drive System

HFD System is comprised of a flat belt, snaking control device and an automatic tensioner, the combination of which enables higher transmission efficiency and longer life than V-belts drives. Can be used in industrial machinery applications,with 6% energy savings compared with conventional products.

“Ceptor™-VI S8M”
Next Generation Compact Toothed Belt

The Ceptor-VI S8M is a narrower belt with significantly increased transmission capacity compared with traditional belts. It not only reduces raw materials usage and has low noise in consideration of the environment, but provides greatly improved performance in synchronous transmission and tracking accuracy. Ceptor-VI S8M, which is available for use on all types of industrial machinery, is environmentally friendly and improves the function and performance of the machinery itself.

By adopting newly developed cover rubber and a cloth canvas tension member, G-Carry has improved durability, while providing energy conservation (power savings) and reduced CO2 emissions. Suitable for use in applications from coal, ore and limestone to cement, crushed rock and wood chips.

“High Load V-Ribbed Belts”
The World’s Highest Capacity Power Transmission Belts

Employing newly developed high-strength rubber and high-strength tension members, these automotive auxiliary drive belts have 30% greater transmission capacity by belt width (per rib). The width of the belt is about 2/3 narrower, while maintaining equivalent life to conventional belts (abrasion resistance and separation resistance). High-Load V-Ribbed Belts contribute to improving fuel efficiency in lighter weight and more compact car engines.

Modifications in raw materials and the belt surface structure drastically reduce running resistance over rollers. This allows the belt drive motor’s power requirements to decrease, resulting in energy conservation.

“Thin Polyolefin Film”
Eco-Friendly Plastic Film

About 20% thinner than conventional film, yet having the same concealment characteristics, Thin Polyolefin Film is 55μm thick (μm = 1/1000mm). We reevaluated the material design and established new production engineering to accommodate both thinness and quality, which resulted in reduced raw materials usage and reduced CO2 emissions throughout the product life cycle (from raw materials processing through to waste disposal). Thin Polyolefin Film can be used in a variety of applications, including interior decorative construction, labels and stickers.

Energy-Saving Red, Energy-Saving Power Ace™ Realize Energy Savings With a Simple V-Belt Replacement

The greatest effect on loss in large belts is bending. We reduced loss with a unique structure of rubber compound design and additional notches. Realize energy savings in industrial machinery applications simply by replacing the existing V-belt.

By adopting high elasticity material, we improved transmission capability by about 25% per belt, and even when reducing the number of belts needed, we reduced material usage and waste.
