Formation of a resource-recycling society

Reducing waste emissions

Bando’s industrial waste is largely made up of rubber and plastics. As rubber is difficult to recycle, our first priority is to reduce the amount of rubber waste we generate. We are working to reduce loss occurring in production, and promoting 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle). We reduced waste generation in FY2017 and achieved our targets. We will continue to increase the percentage of materials recycling, improve resource productivity, and expand activities beyond our production sites. We achieved zero emissions at all of our domestic factories and at our corporate headquarters and continue to do so.

Improving recycling levels

The amount and kinds of waste is proportional to production. Bando’s industrial waste is largely made up of raw materials, and each of our sites works at loss reduction activities to reduce materials waste. About 70% of our waste is burned to create thermal energy, which is called “thermal recycling”. Waste is also used as “material recycling”, in which it is converted to use in other products. We are working to increase the rate in this latter category for a more effective use of resources.
